The project occupies a 45-foot by 100-foot lot bound by two walk streets: the Strand, which stretches for miles along the oceanfront boundary of Manhattan Beach, and 15th Street, which connects the Strand to the central downtown area. The client, an attorney practicing in Los Angeles and a collector of contemporary art, requested a home for himself and a second home of equal size and quality for resale. The two homes each contain approximately 3,000 SF of interior living area and three covered parking spaces, directly accessible to the units from inside. Each house has a main living/dining room--all or part double height--a generous kitchen, master suite with bathroom and two additional bedrooms. Both units have views of the ocean extending southwest to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and northwest to Malibu.
